I know February is a bit far off, but I wanted to give you a head start! February-themed products are so stinking cute, and these Count the Room, opens in a new tab and Write the Room: Go to writetheroomFEBblog, opens in a new tab activities are no exception. My kids LOVE the days I pull these out!
Count the Room, opens in a new tab
This February themed "Count the Room, opens in a new tab" activity (in both color and black and white) is a great way for ACTIVE children to practice their number recognition and counting for numbers 1-20! Print out your number cards and (sort of) "hide them” around the classroom so that your children can go on a number hunt! They walk around the room with a clipboard or a hard surface, and write the number of objects on each card they find along the way on their recording sheet.
There are two different versions of the recording sheet, to give you options to choose what works best in your classroom! One version is a blank space, for children to simply write the numeral down in the space provided. The second version is a lined version, for children to write the numeral or the number word on the line provided.
By February in my class, there was already a readiness gap between the children that could count objects and write the numbers beyond ten and those that were still learning. In order to challenge the children that were ready for more, I made TWO DIFFERENT SETS of cards, and mounted the more challenging set on some black construction paper. I told the children that were ready in two of my groups to use the cards with black construction paper behind them, and the others to use the card on top. This proved to be a great method of differentiation! It worked out great.
All versions are provided in black and white AND color, so you can choose what you like. But my kids LOVE to color the pictures on their recording sheets when they are done!

Write the Room, opens in a new tab
This editable, February themed "Write the Room, opens in a new tab" activity (in both color and black and white) is a great way for ACTIVE children to practice reading and writing sight words! And YOU get to fill in the words of your choice, because this product is EDITABLE! All you have to do is delete and type over the words that are written into this product, and that’s it! Print out your word cards and (sort of) "hide them” around the classroom so that your children can go on a word hunt! They walk around the room with a clipboard or a hard surface, and write the words they find along the way on their recording sheet.
The recording sheet does not say “sight words” because that way, you can put in spelling words, letters, or anything else you can think of. It’s up to you! All it says is "Write the Room, opens in a new tab." And since this product is editable, you can make different sets of words to meet all of the needs of your students! I do recommend either printing or laminating the different groups cards on different colored papers.
There are two different styles of recording sheets to choose from with lined spaces or just blank space to write in, and both are provided in black and white AND color, so you can choose what you like. But my kids LOVE to color the pictures when they are done!
