This Cookie Sheet Shapes Matching Activity is a fun, hands-on way for young children in Pre-K, Kindergarten, or first grade to practice matching shapes to real life objects.
This Cookie Sheet Shapes Matching Activity is a fun, hands-on way for young children in Pre-K, Kindergarten, or first grade to practice matching shapes to real life objects. Children will look at two photos of real life items that include the basic shapes and match them to shape buttons, foam, blocks, or printable shapes, etc. The first ten sheets include only circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, and ovals. The second ten pages include the pattern block shapes, which are square, triangle, trapezoid, hexagon, and rhombus. The last ten pages include simple shapes in color and black/white.
The great thing about this activity is that it is simple enough that it can usually be done independently in kindergarten and even Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Pre-K!
There are THREE different versions provided of this Shape Matching Cookie Sheet Activity, plus some printable shapes, just in case you do not have any physical ones to use.
• Set One: This is intended for beginners, and includes only the following shapes: circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, and ovals.
• Set Two: This set is to be used with standard pattern blocks, and includes squares, triangles, trapezoids, hexagons, and rhombi (diamonds).
• Set Three: Simple colored shapes in color and black & white.
• A printable set of shapes to be cut apart and used for matching, if needed, just in case you do not have plastic ones. You can also use this master sheet to help keep shapes organized. Teach kids to place their shapes on top of this sheet when they are not using them, if desired.
